Solar panels 'increasing in popularity'

Solar panels 'increasing in popularity'Interest in the home solar panels market is growing and this growth is likely to continue, it has been claimed.

Last month, the Department of Energy and Climate Change announced that people using solar panels to produce heat and electricity for their own homes would receive a payment.

In addition, any power they direct to the National Grid will also be subject to a payment.

As a result, it is predicted the average property with solar panels will benefit from a £900 income boost for its owners, in addition to the £140 savings they could make on their household bills.

James Meynell, co-founder of Going Solar, said the solar panels markert is likely to demonstrate good levels of growth over the next few years.

"There is increasing interest, particularly on the PV [photovoltaic] side of things, largely because of the new premium tariffs that the government have announced, which are really very attractive for the electricity-producing panel," he explained.

On last night's (April 22nd) leaders debate on Sky News, Gordon Brown claimed he has been pleasantly surprised with the results of the solar panels he has at its constituency home.
