Solar panels 'help transform barn'
Article date : 17/08/2010

Solar panels have been installed on an old barn in Norfolk, making it an award-winning home.
According to the Norwich Evening News, the 4,200 sq ft structure has been fitted with solar water heating and electricity panels by farmer Charles Bracey.
"I really wanted a mix of old and new and to create something light and airy with a bit of a modern twist," Mr Bracey explained.
The converted barn has since landed the Broadland Enhancement Award scheme, which rewards extensions and repairs made to existing buildings in the area over the last year.
Commenting on the sustainable elements of the residence, Mr Bracey noted the solar panels will bring down his electricity and gas bills to around £500 a year.
Similar technology recently helped Bridgend County Borough Council make savings on its water-heating facilities after it added panels to the roofs of its civic offices, NewsWales reports.
