Pay As You Save 'a brilliant scheme'
Article date : 11/06/2010

Making energy efficiency improvements in the home - such as modernising
central heating systems by adding solar panels - could now be more affordable thanks to Pay As You Save.
Simon McWhirter, campaign director at the Great British Refurb Campaign, said that the scheme demonstrates real potential and could help act as an incentive to encourage more people to go green in their homes.
The scheme will see Britons having the ability to access a loan to pay for technology such as solar panels and then paying it back through the savings they make on their utility bills as a result of the technology.
"If we get this right, they get a more comfortable home which is cheaper to run, it is more environmentally sensitive and they don't pay any dough for it," Mr McWhirter said.
However, he added that such work would need to begin swiftly if the UK was to meet the tough carbon reduction goals it has set itself.
