Homeowners 'have it all to gain with solar panels'
Article date : 08/08/2010

Britons who use solar panels to boost their hot water supply and
central heating systems can also use the technology to generate renewable energy electricity which can then be sold on to the National Grid.
In light of this, HomeSun has launched a scheme that will see it giving away £1 billion-worth of solar panels, allowing 100,000 homeowners across the UK to make use of the technology for free.
To finance the giveaway, the firm is taking advantage of the fact that under new legislation, energy providers have to pay for the electricity produced by residential homes as part of government plans to reduce carbon emissions.
HomeSun would pay for the solar panels, allowing Britons to take advantage of the free power they produce and the company would then recoup the cost by taking the money made through the Feed-in Tariff as payment.
Daniel Green, chief executive officer at HomeSun, said: "I think it is a brilliant way to get us to grid parity where there is no contribution needed by utilities or government and we are all benefiting from solar power."
However, Consumer Focus and the Centre for Sustainable Energy recently urged caution over free solar panel giveaways, advising that homeowners seek legal advice and do their research before they sign up to such a scheme.
