Government solar panel scheme 'a positive step'
Article date : 17/02/2010

Britons considering ways of becoming more energy efficient may wish to consider installing microgeneration technologies in their homes, such as solar panels, in order to take advantage of a new government scheme.
The pay as you save (PAYE) campaign aims to allow people making use of such devices to pay for them using the money they will save on their future energy bills and the programme is currently being trialled in 500 homes across England.
If successful, it is hoped the scheme will make the country's housing stock more energy efficient.
Commenting on the campaign, Gordon Miller, founder of whatgreenhome.com, called it an "incredibly positive step" and noted green home improvements are likely to increase in popularity in the year ahead.
"Obviously there is a certain appetite because when you supply people with money, they will act, as they are doing with this boiler scrappage scheme," he explained.
Under the
boiler scrappage scheme, households currently reliant on a G rated
boiler to power their
central heating systems can apply to receive £400 off the cost of a
condensing boiler.
