Could incentives prompt businesses to invest in solar panels?

Could incentives prompt businesses to invest in solar panels?UK businesses need additional encouragement to prompt them to become more energy efficient, one sector commentator has suggested.

James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen.com, said that while consumers are becoming more demanding with their green products, companies also need incentives to help them go green.

"More incentives is a big one, rolling out wider carbon pricing to boost energy bills and encouraging people to be more efficient with their energy is another big one," he added.

However, businesses may find there are plenty of incentives if they fit solar panels.

Should they own the premises they work from - meaning they can fit solar panels - it could help them to promote their green credentials.

Furthermore, there are also cash incentives through installing such renewable energy technology as using the panels to boost central heating systems could see firms benefit from reduced energy bills.

And they could also sell any excess power they generate back to the National Grid for an additional monetary boost.

Mr Murray's comments come after a survey by Enterprise Rent-A-Car revealed 34 per cent of small and medium-sized enterprises revealed tax breaks for better environmental performance would persuade them towards greener options.
