Carbon emissions 'will move up manufacturers' agenda'
Article date : 12/01/2010

Carbon emissions have been important to the manufacturing sector for some time but the industry had to reprioritise as a result of the recession, one sector commentator has claimed.
However, once it begins to regain some stability, reducing carbon emissions will become an important issue for such businesses again, Adam Buckley, head of programmes at the Manufacturing Institute, said.
"I think as the recession hit and the economic climate changed I think manufacturers took it seriously and it was higher on the agenda, but as soon as the recession bit I think it slipped down on the priority list," he added.
While industry may be committed to lowering its carbon emissions, Britons can also take steps to reduce their own home's carbon footprint.
This could be achieved by investing in solar panels to cover hot water needs, which can see both carbon emissions and energy bills being lowered.
An additional benefit was recently unveiled in the pre-Budget report when it was claimed people who direct any excess energy from the panels back to the National Grid could receive £900 tax-free a year.
