Businesses 'interested in green power'
Article date : 23/05/2010

Investing in the technology to generate their own power - such as solar panels - is becoming more attractive to UK businesses, one sector commentator has asserted.
James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen.com, said that since the introduction of the government's Feed-In Tariff incentive scheme, it has become more realistic for firms to purchase such technology to generate clean, green power.
"You are going to start to see businesses, that aren't just green businesses that want to cut their carbon emission," he added.
Mr Murray claimed that such a decision would not only help companies to make money through reduced bills and any power they redirected to the National Grid - which they could be paid for - but it would also have PR benefits.
However, he concluded that there is still a lot of room for improvement.
According to the Department for Energy and Climate Change, the Feed-in Tariff is designed to offer incentives for small scale, low carbon electricity generation by providing cashback for householders, communities and businesses.
This allows them to become generators of electricity, rather than simply consumers.
