New green show home for Tyneside
Article date : 09/12/2008
A new show home showcasing environmentally-efficient technologies is being planned by North Tyneside council to transform a local black spot, it has been reported.
According to online resource New Builder, the former caretakers' house will have a green makeover in order to demonstrate that existing old buildings can also be energy-efficient, cheaper to run and reduce their carbon emissions.
Features are set to include solar thermal panels for hot water, rainwater harvesting, an air source heat pump for underfloor heating and comprehensive energy-efficient lighting.
Elected Mayor John Harrison stated that the project could show the ways to limit the impact of everyday living on the environment.
"It will be used as a showcase to help others to learn about sustainable construction techniques and technologies, but will ultimately be lived in and become a sustainable energy efficient family home," he added.
Homeowners who feel inspired to take steps to improve the efficiency of their own homes may be interested to know that the Energy Saving Trust notes that a
condensing boiler, used in conjunction with a full set of
heating controls, could significantly reduce utilities bills.
