A project to develop the use of biomass
heating boilers at locations across Goole and East Riding is continuing, a report says.
Future Energy Yorkshire's Woodfuel Infrastructure Programme is investing £5 million in biomass boiler developments, the Goole Courier reports.
But this is not the only new biomass fuel development in Yorkshire. A new wood pellet centre is set to be opened in Melmerby near Ripon in September.
The programme to encourage the uptake of biomass boilers is designed to complement another project from Future Energy Yorkshire for the development of a new wood pellet mill in Pollington, which when fully operational could produce some 50,000 tonnes of wood pellet each year.
"The programme aims to deliver a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across the region of about 180,000 tonnes - equivalent to taking more than 11,000 cars off the road," said Joanne Pollard, managing director of Sustainable Futures, Future Energy Yorkshire's parent organisation.
