How much a person is charged for their energy bills depends on where they live, a survey of more than 2,000 consumers reveals.
A gap of 28 per cent exists between the highest and lowest monthly spend on gas and electricity, the research by Fairinvestment.co.uk found.
The south-east has the cheapest energy bills at an average of £46 per person, while the most expensive stands at £59 in Yorkshire and Humberside.
"It seems unfair that the same product should cost more or less depending on your postcode, especially when prices are already shooting up," says the website's spokesman John Corboy.
Switching energy provider or turning a thermostat down on
heating controls can reduce bills, Mr Corboy claims, adding that energy efficiency is now a priority for households.
A further way to cut home heating bills, as well as full
heating controls on
central heating systems, is to make sure no furniture is blocking radiators to ensure they are working efficiently, the Energy Saving Trust says.
Getting the
boiler serviced once a year will improve efficiency which could further cut bills, the trust adds.
