A writer has pledged to turn down her
radiators in order to reduce her energy consumption as part of her own commitment to the Age of Stupid's 10:10 campaign.
The scheme aims to encourage individuals and organisations to sign up to cut their energy use by ten per cent next year, in a move which it hopes will reduce carbon emissions.
Writer Sarah Waters told the Guardian that she has pledged to do her bit for 10:10, stating: "I'm hoping to turn off
radiators more [...] I can be a lot more careful about heating just one or two rooms and the odd hot water bottle wouldn't go amiss as well."
And Ms Waters may find that she can get more from her
radiators by bleeding them in order to remove any trapped air, which can see their energy efficiency being boosted.
Furthermore, fixing a sheet of aluminium foil or a reflective panel behind
radiators can reduce the amount of heat which is lost through a window or absorbed through a wall.
