Britons may find that switching to online billing could help them to achieve lower energy bills, it has been asserted.
Zoe McLeod, principal policy advocate at Consumer Focus, said switching to direct debit payments could see consumers making a saving of up to £110 a year, while a direct debit online payment service could reduce bulls by as much as £190 annually.
"Generally speaking switching from a prepayment meter to a monthly direct debit payment will be cheaper and if you can switch to online direct debits it's better still," she added.
However, Ms McLeod said that people with a debt of £100 or less on a prepayment meter still had the right to switch.
And there are steps people can take around the home to lower their energy bills as well.
To get
central heating systems ready for winter, Britons may wish to bleed all their
radiators while they are off to remove any trapped air which could be reducing their energy efficiency.
