A town near Pendle is set to reduce its carbon footprint following a new project which will see energy-efficient
boilers installed in homes.
The Burnley Citizen reports that a number of households in Nelson are set to have brand
new boilers installed, which are claimed to be up to 90 per cent energy efficient - which could see their energy bills being reduced by as much as a third each year.
Furthermore, the Foundation-funded project has already allowed six properties to have valve-controlled
radiators fitted in every room.
Such
heating controls can allow homeowners to monitor which
radiators will come on in their properties, meaning that heat is not wasted in unoccupied rooms.
Home energy officer at Pendle council Heather Shaw said: "This project provides help for these people, while educating them about the climate change."
In related news, Kevin McCloud, presenter of channel 4 show Grand Designs, recently claimed that it was important to green up the UK's existing housing stock in order to meet the country's carbon reduction targets.
