In spite of the pressure that the credit crunch and recession is putting on Britons' finances, many are still keen to make some cosmetic improvements around their homes, one sector commentator has suggested.

Holly Sleight, marketing manager at Rangemaster, said that people were still going out and spending cash but that when it came to purchases such as a new kitchen they expected more value for money.

"People are saving and then buying rather than just getting it on credit. They want more for their money ... They still want the best, but they want the best for as cheap as possible," she explained.

Ms Sleight added that many homeowners were now carrying out renovations themselves, rather than choosing to move up the property ladder.

One way Britons may be able to add a whole new cosmetic feel to their homes is by installing new radiators.

Kitchen radiators such as vertical radiators, remote control radiators or contemporary radiators could put a modern twist on traditional radiators in the home.

And now may be the time to get renovating, after the National Association of Estate Agents reported that 17 per cent of agents thought the best way to add value to a house was through a new kitchen.
