Insulating the way to a greener home

The top priority for UK landlords who wish to improve the green credentials of their housing portfolio should be to invest in insulation, it has been recommended.
In a statement from the Residential Landlords Association, property professionals are advised that this simple step could increase the value of their property.
The group notes that not only can improved insulation result in lower heating bills for tenants, it can also reduce the risk of damage being caused by mould and condensation.
In addition, tenants may find poorly insulated properties to be a "damp and unpleasant" environment in which to live, as the majority of heat escapes through the walls.
This could be a particular problem during rainy periods.
However, one cheap and easy step landlords could take is to boost the efficiency of
radiators by placing a reflective panel behind them.
Using just kitchen foil, the heat from the
radiators can be reflected back into the room, rather than being absorbed into the walls or lost through a nearby window.
