Despite recent signs of improvement, one sector commentator has claimed that the UK housing market is not yet "out of the doldrums", which could prompt Britons to invest in home improvements rather than moving.

Commenting on recent Halifax figures which reveal that house prices increased by 2.6 per cent in the last month, David Amstell, founder of Briffy.com, said this could be a seasonable trend.

He added: "This time of year, people do [show more interest in moving house], even people that haven't been in the marketplace up until now."

However, Claire Barrett, editor at Grand Designs Magazine, recently claimed that summer was also a popular time for carrying out home improvements.

Britons may wish to take heed of these comments and get their household central heating systems ready for winter.

The energy efficiency of radiators can be achieved by placing foil or a reflective panel behind the devices to prevent heat being lost through walls and windows.

And traditional radiators and contemporary radiators alike can also be boosted by being bled while they are on a low temperature for the summer.
