While the autumn has now well and truly arrived, many Britons may feel as though winter is not far off and may wish to get their homes ready for the temperature drop now.
Writing for the Move Channel, Catherine Deshayes states that there are a number of ways that homeowners can ensure their
central heating systems will be performing to their peak in time for the winter.
She recommends that Britons ensure their pipes and hot water cylinders are well lagged in order to keep them insulated, while she advises people who plan to be away from their properties for more than a day over the winter to allow their
central heating systems to come on for short periods.
Such a move can ensure that the water in pipes does not freeze and cause them to burst which could result in a costly repair bill.
Furthermore, she adds that all
radiators should be bled to remove any trapped air bubbles, which can allow them to work more efficiently.
And households who wish to further boost the efficiency of their
radiators could consider buying or making a reflective panel to be placed behind the heating unit, which can reduce the loss of heat through walls and windows.
