Despite the ongoing credit crunch, Britons may find there are plenty of home improvements to keep them busy over the approaching bank holiday weekend, while also allowing them to create a more energy-efficient property.
According to moneysupermarket.com's resident shopping expert Simon James, energy efficiency can be given a boost by beating those draughts.
He advises visiting a DIY store to purchase a letterbox cover, a brush draught excluder strip for the base of a door or foam door and window draught seals, to keep all cold exterior breezes outside.
And he notes that reflective panels can be placed behind
radiators to prevent hot air from being lost through the walls or a nearby window.
Britons may find that a large piece of kitchen foil placed behind
traditional radiators,
vertical radiators or
contemporary radiators is equally effective and saves them money.
Ruth Wilkins, head of communications for Legal & General's insurance business, recently claimed that some home improvements that Britons are currently putting on hold due to money concerns may in fact be essential for property maintenance.
