Article date : 03/02/2009

Britons who are struggling to get to grips with their increasing energy bills have been offered some tips on keeping their energy outgoings to a minimum.

While the beginning of this week saw the UK experiencing its heaviest fall of snow in almost 20 years, may homeowners will have counteracted the cold outside by turning up their central heating systems and radiators.

However, The Sun Money reminds households to turn their heating back down as soon as the cold snap passes, rather than forgetting about it.

And it added that Britons were being advised not to put their health at risk by residing in a chilly home as the temperature plummets.

Another simple way of ensuring a property stays snug is to close the curtains early to keep the heat in and to seal up and gaps in the floorboards or skirting.

However, for some owners, going without their central heating may seem like the only option as the struggle to meet their energy bills.

Research by moneysupermarket.com recently revealed that one in six people have admitted they cannot currently afford to heat their home.
