This Easter, Britons opted to stay at home and dig out their toolboxes to carry out some DIY around their properties.
Research by Barclaycard reveals that spending on DIY and gardening products was up 18 per cent in the four week lead-up to Easter, in comparison to the same period in 2008.
Furthermore, spending on airlines was down 25 per cent during the same time, with money spent on car rental and homes falling 17 per cent and eight per cent respectively, suggesting that Britons decided against taking a holiday in favour of home improvements.
Stewart Roberts, business development director at Barclaycard, said: "What we have seen this Easter is people spending their hard earned money on the comforts of home."
Britons may have been keen to boost the energy efficiency of their property over the break and one way this could be achieved is through increasing the efficiency of their
radiators.
This can be attained by placing a large sheet of foil behind
radiators to reflect warm air back around the room and prevent it from being absorbed into the wall or lost through a nearby window.
