Are you good enough at maths to read your energy bills?Written by Tony Harrison

Household bills need to be made simpler as many consumers are baffled by the information they receive in the post, it has been said.

USwitch.com has launched its Energy Bill Challenge campaign, to encourage Britons to sign a petition to make bills more homeowner friendly.

It comes as it was revealed by examination body Edexcel that in order to fully get to grips with home heating bills, individuals require at least a high-grade GCSE in maths.

The Energy Saving Trust has revealed a number of ways which homeowners could make their properties more efficient, which could make bills more pleasurable to read.

Fitting reflective panels behind radiators can save up to £25 a year off energy bills and they cost around £3 to £4 each, which could mean they soon pay for themselves.

"You shouldn't need to be an A grade student to be able to understand your energy bills," asserted Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com.

However, GCSE maths or not, homeowners may understand the savings they could make by fitting reflective panels behind their radiators.
