When it comes to home improvements, consumers have been told that those which boost the energy efficiency of their property could also help to increase the building's lifespan.
And US firm Handyman Connection has offered homeowners a number of tips which can be employed to ensure that a house is running as energy efficiently as possible.
The group asserts that
heating controls are a "great" investment, as, in addition to boosting the efficiency of
central heating systems, they can also be used to make sure that the water supply is only heated when necessary.
Heating controls are also useful for controlling when
radiators come on in different rooms, ensuring that no heat is wasted when a space is left unoccupied.
"Regular maintenance can actually extend the life of a home and energy improvements are often inexpensive and start saving consumers money immediately," said Joel Bell, executive vice-president of the company.
Britons may also wish to heed the advice of the Energy Saving Trust, which advises that a
condensing boiler is one of the most efficient
gas boilers currently on the market.
