Pretty Woman actress Julia Roberts resides in a US eco-mansion, however, one news provider has stated that homeowners do not have to have the income of a filmstar in order to go green.
Indeed, the Metro states that Britons can lower their carbon footprints and reduce their energy bills on a relatively small budget.
The newspaper spoke to Matt Knight, green home advisor at the Energy Saving Trust, who said that UK households spend £20 billion on energy each year, but that utility bills could be lowered by £300 and carbon emissions by 1.5 tonnes by going green.
He advised that new
heating controls could reduce bills by 17 per cent, while a
condensing boiler could increase the saving by a further 40 per cent.
"The thermostat should be set from 18 to 21 degrees Celsius. Turning it down by just one degree could cut your heating bill by £65 and save 330kg of CO2 a year," Mr Knight added.
Julia Roberts is not the only famous face committed to going green, with it recently being revealed that U2 singer Bono is set to have a new wood pellet burning
boiler fitted at his home.
