A housing group has determined to illustrate how retrofitting older properties can boost energy efficiency and lower utility bills.
Willmott Dixon Group division Inspace carried out renovations on a property in Barnsley which dates back to the 1930s and one of the new additions is a gas
condensing boiler.
The group notes that the A-rated
gas boiler was installed in conjunction with new
heating controls, which can allow a household to choose when heating comes on, at what temperature and in what rooms.
Such appliances can ensure that heat is never wasted in a room which is unoccupied.
And
central heating systems were given a further boost, thorough the addition of solar panels.
Commenting on the retrofit, Brendan Ritchie, Inspace's managing director for innovation and sustainability, said: "Tackling energy efficiency on older housing stock will become a major priority and companies like Inspace will have to show how this can be done affordably."
His comments come as the Federation of Master Builders noted that low carbon and energy efficiency will become increasing priorities in property retrofits.
