Wind energy 'presents good investment opportunity'
Article date : 01/07/2010

Wind energy presents a positive investment opportunity for the UK, in terms of jobs and development, one sector commentator has claimed.
Michael Rea, chief operating officer at the Carbon Trust, said the sector could also play a larger role in reducing carbon emissions.
"We need to think creatively about how we can put more finance into this particular sector and we think that it is a terrific investment opportunity but we need to find ways of de-risking that investment," he added, speaking at the RenewableUK Offshore Wind 2010 event in Liverpool.
Indeed, in order to unlock the sector, Mr Rea recommended taking steps to specifically reduce the cost of generating offshore wind energy.
In his delivery of the Budget last month, chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne said the government would bring forward its plans to create a Green Investment Bank, along with private investment in clean energy and green technologies.
