Should Brits count benefits of going green?

Should Brits count benefits of going green? While many Britons believe they are currently doing enough to reduce their harmful impact on the planet, they may find they could be doing more.

According to a new Energenie study, conducted by Vanson Bourne, 73 per cent of UK families believe they are currently doing enough for their lifestyles to be considered environmentally friendly.

Meanwhile, 72 per cent revealed they have energy saving devices in their homes.

However, upon digging a little deeper, the survey revealed that in 81 per cent of occasions, the green devices in question were energy saving light bulbs, with many respondents doing little else to make their homes and behaviour more efficient.

The survey concluded that in the majority of cases, it is still cost, rather than the environment, which drives people to go green.

But Britons could make their central heating systems more efficient and save money if they take advantage of the boiler scrappage scheme - which reduces the price of a condensing boiler by £400.

Similarly, investing in solar panels could soon see people being paid £900 a year tax-free for the power they generate, under new plans proposed by the government.
