Public 'needs to know more about renewables benefits'
Article date : 03/02/2010

Britons may be more inclined to invest in renewable energy technology such as solar panels if they were more aware of the benefits, one sector commentator has asserted.
Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council, said it was important for everyone to learn the advantages of such appliances, not only for the good of the environment but also because it could save people money through reduced energy bills.
He urged the government, manufacturers and the media to engage in a "continual bombardment" of the public to raise awareness of the advantages of looking into renewable energy technology.
"I think the general public needs a lot more education in this respect. They are still very sceptical about global warming and climate change and what the knock-on effects of those are," Mr Leech stated.
His comments come after the government revealed that from April, households and businesses which use renewable energy technology such as solar panels or wind turbines will receive payments of some £900, in addition to the cash saving they will make on their utility bills.
