New energy efficient towns proposed
Article date : 10/03/2010

Recent announcements from the government would appear to suggest it is doing as much as it can to encourage homeowners to be more energy efficient and now it is considering offering funding to put towards the creation of entire eco towns.
According to the Independent, East Devon District Council and Fareham Borough Council are both keen to develop new green settlements which live up to eco town standards and are currently under consideration.
If successful, the local authorities would receive £200,000 each to go towards the green planning, which would see 3,500 properties being built in Cranbrook near Exeter and 7,000 new homes in Fareham.
"This signals real and radical momentum to change and to re-think how we design our towns and homes for the future," said housing minister John Healey.
Even if they do not live in an eco town, there are plenty of ways for Britons to make their own homes more energy efficient.
These include brining
central heating systems up to date through the addition of a new
condensing boiler, or investing in solar panels which reduce emissions by using renewable energy.
