'More clarity needed' for reporting carbon emissions

'More clarity needed' for reporting carbon emissionsBusinesses looking to become more energy efficient may be unsure of the steps they should take when it comes to reporting their annual carbon emissions.

In light of this, Dr Neil Bentley, Confederation of British Industry (CBI) director of business environment, has claimed there is a lack of consistency in just how firms should go about reporting their carbon footprint.

But speaking at the recent CBI Low-Carbon Business Breakfast conference, he added there is no single agreed method for companies to do this.

Commenting on the news, James Murray, editor of businessgreen.com, also noted that there needed to be a clear standard in place for business to report carbon emissions.

He stated there were "far too many" standards managing the reporting of carbon emissions at the moment, adding: "There is also a real lack of clarity about whether you can justifiably compare [the] methods of different companies which report."

Businesses that wish to become more energy efficient may want to begin by examining their central heating systems, which could benefit from modernisation.
