Government 'should do more to tackle climate change'
Article date : 17/08/2010

While the public has a part to play in reducing the country's carbon emissions, the government could also be doing more, one sector commentator has claimed.
Zoe Robinson, ethical development manager at Warren Evans, said that ministers need to do more than simply asking people to turn off their televisions and save energy if it wishes to successfully fight climate change.
She added that this is particularly true after the government announced £34 million worth of cuts to low-carbon projects at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, along with the scrapping of the Sustainable Development Commission.
"The government has said it wants to be the greenest government ever. To achieve that it has to invest to help create jobs in the industry and in training people ... [and] lead by example," Ms Robinson explained.
Britons who want to do their bit to fight climate change are advised by the Energy Saving Trust that they can make their
central heating systems more energy efficient by having a
condensing boiler installed.
