Energy efficiency 'may be aided by smart meter proposals'
Article date : 28/07/2010

New government energy proposals could be a "major step forward" for homeowners who wish to reduce their carbon footprints, it has been suggested.
Zoe McLeod, energy expert at Consumer Focus, responded to a new smart meter prospectus that has been issued by the Department for Energy and Climate Change in conjunction with Ofgem.
She said that the plans could enable people using smart meters to reduce their energy bills and make payments with ease, even if they are among the poorest customers "who have been penalised for years".
"The recognition that greater safeguards must be developed on consumer protection and privacy should also help to reassure any customers with concerns over this technology," Ms McLeod continued.
Last week, Confused.com revealed that the average Brit spends £1,541.91 per month on utility bills, rent or mortgage, shopping and other payments.
To reduce these payments, homeowners may want to consider making their properties more energy efficient by updating their central heating systems.
