Could boiler scrappage go further?

Could boiler scrappage go further?Britons may still be put off from making an investment in the technology and appliances which could make their homes more energy efficient due to the costs involved, one sector commentator has claimed.

Duncan Hayes, editor at Build It Magazine, said: "The boiler scrappage scheme [should] be applauded, but they never go far enough and the money never lasts long enough. Other green grants and incentives tend to run out more or less within a few weeks of them being issued."

In light of this, he stated it was a shame other green products - such as solar panels - were not cheaper to invest in.

Mr Hayes stated many of his firm's readers had considered solar panels but found them to be too expensive.

However, a new government scheme set to be launched in April could see more people considering solar panels.

From then, any person generating their own power for their home using the technology will receive an annual tax-free sum of £900, while they could stand to make even more by directing surplus power to the National Grid.
