Businesses 'would be prudent to invest in energy efficiency'Boosting their energy efficiency could become more of a priority for UK firms if they are looking to act on the government's CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.

Formerly known as the Carbon Reduction Commitment, the campaign is mandatory and administered by the Environment Agency.

The scheme aims to encourage changes in behaviour and infrastructure among organisations in an attempt to reduce their carbon footprints, while it also plans to raise awareness of green issues.

Harry Morrison, general manager at the Carbon Trust, said businesses would be "prudent" to follow CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, adding that it was important to realise that the plans had been passed.

He explained that it was up to the individual organisation to implement an appropriate audit trail of their data and reduce their carbon emissions accordingly.

"That internal audit process, having accurate data and indeed being able to forecast that data for the future is an essential part of having an effective CRC strategy," Mr Morrison explained.
