Britons 'need to be energy efficiency quickly'
Article date : 09/03/2010

As the government unveils its plans to make homes and
central heating systems across the UK more energy efficient, the rate at which such makeovers will need to be carried out has been revealed.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change last week unveiled its pledge to offer seven million properties a whole house makeover designed to reduce their utility bills and carbon footprint by 2020.
It hopes the plans will see the UK taken one step closer to meeting its commitment to cut carbon emissions.
However, the Energy Saving Trust has revealed that the plans will need to be intensive, with 13,400 having to be retrofitted every week in order to meet the pledge.
"With the government's 2016 zero carbon homes policy we have a clear trajectory to achieving very low carbon new homes in England," said Philip Sellwood, chief executive of the Energy Saving Trust.
Under the government plans, Britons can apply for a loan worth thousands of pounds to fund making their property more energy efficient.
This may include by installing solar panels or modernising existing
central heating systems.
