Older boilers generally use more gas due to their design and the inefficiencies that develop over time. A boiler that is 10 years or more old, will almost certainly be less efficient than nearly all options available today. Modern condensing boilers usually offer 'A' rated efficiency which equates to around 90+%, using fuel more eonomically to create the same amount of heat.
The increase in efficiency of a condensing boiler is down to the extraction of heat from the gases normally wasted (ejected out of the flue) in non-condensing boilers. These gases are instead allowed to rise through the primary heat exchanger and then delivered to a secondary heat exchanger. This extracts more heat which has the effect of lowering the temperature of flue gas. A side effect of this cooling causes water vapour to condense leading to the formation of water droplets which are drained out of the boiler into a suitable drain / soak-away.
Essentially, a condensing or High Efficiency boiler can be a combi, system or open vent boiler. Whether you're replacing an old boiler with a newer gas condensing boiler, want to install a new combi-boiler in a property or are looking for another type of boiler, such as a heat only boiler (open vent boiler) or system boiler (sealed system) - Northern Gas Heating can install and deliver gas condensing boilers for almost any type of property, in almost the whole of the UK.
Northern Gas Heating only stock and install high efficiency gas condensing boilers from leading brands, such as Potterton, Worcester, Keston and Halstead. This includes a wide range of combi boilers, or combination boilers, which are the most popular boilers in the UK - found in around 70% of UK households.
