What is a combi boiler?

A combination (or combi) boiler basically gives you both heat and hot water directly from the boiler.

A combi boiler is a clever space-saving idea, and is a very popular choice these days. It is thought that around 50% of new boiler installations in the UK are now combination boilers.

This type of boiler combines water heating and central heating into one small unit which can be tucked away neatly under stairs or in cupboards. Combi boilers work best for homes with one bathroom, occupied by single people, couples, or families with one child, as they don't allow multiple showers or baths at the same time. A combi boiler offers opportunity to dispense with the hot water cylinder as hot water is no longer stored in the traditional way. Installation costs can also be reduced as there is a requirement for less pipe-work due to the elimination of the tank.

Saving are made on running costs as water is heated only as it is called for, i.e. when someone in the house runs a hot water tap.
