Information 'key to improving energy efficiency'Information will be the key factor in convincing more people to improve their home energy efficiency, one sector commentator has asserted - such as by modernising their central heating systems.

Dick Strawbridge, presenter of It's Not Easy Being Green, said that saving energy is all about learning and guidance, as not everyone understands what they can do to reduce their consumption.

However, he added that utility providers do not appear to be providing this leadership.

He added: "It is about information - once the genie is out of the bottle and people understand - it doesn't go back inside the bottle.

"The tough thing is that people need to want to save this money - but who doesn't want to save money."

According to research published by Marketiers, 48 per cent of consumers believe that their energy providers are "useless" when it comes to providing useful information on the steps people can take to reduce their carbon footprints.

Meanwhile, 36 per cent of respondents claimed that they do not feel they are being encouraged to become more energy efficient.

Reducing carbon footprints can start at home, with modernisation to central heating systems - such as the addition of a condensing boiler and heating controls - one way of reducing both emissions and bills.
