How central heating systems can prevent pipes freezing
Article date : 10/03/2010

While spring has now begun, what is now known to be the coldest UK winter in three decades has proved costly for many Britons and people may be keen to ensure the same is not the case next year.
According to Paragon, around 16,000 claims were made for burst pipes during January when the temperature plummeted and the figure for February is expected to be similar.
As a result, it is offering recommendations from Redbrick Landlords Insurance to homeowners and landlords to ensure that they do not find themselves facing a costly repair bill following a burst pipe.
It is recommended
central heating systems are programmed to come on for set periods during the day and night, while a frost protection thermostat could also be useful.
Tony Armitage, Redbrick Landlords Insurance managing director, said: "Water can cause as much damage as a serious fire and the speed with which it can cause complete devastation is remarkable."
Modernising
central heating systems may also see them coping better with the cold, which may mean consumers wish to take part in the government's ongoing
boiler scrappage scheme.
