How Brits have lived up to the 10:10 pledge
Article date : 06/07/2010

Halfway into 2010, a number of Britons have been asked how they are following through on their 10:10 pledge.
The campaign was set up by Franny Armstrong - director of The Age of Stupid - and aims to encourage people to take action in order to reduce their own carbon emissions by ten per cent this year by consuming less energy.
Now, the Guardian has asked a number of people if they are keeping to their pledge and what they have done to achieve this.
Novelist Sarah Waters explains that she has added a more efficient boiler to her
central heating systems in an effort to stop wasting as much power.
She notes that she has also made more of an effort to switch off her heating and hot water when it is not needed.
Meanwhile, entrepreneur Jo Wood reveals that because of the size of her home, she only heated the rooms she was spending time in during the winter.
Elsewhere, the Barker family from Warrington told how they are now considering finally upgrading their existing
gas boiler, which is 15 years old.
Other ways to reduce emissions and energy consumption include installing
heating controls or fitting a reflective panel behind
radiators.
