Heating controls 'as important as new boiler'
Article date : 19/02/2010

Having the right
heating controls installed to
central heating systems is just as important when it comes to saving money as replacing the
boiler, one sector commentator has asserted.
According to Voltimum, Horstmann Controls' national sales manager Paul Lovegrove is urging all
boiler engineers fitting new appliances as part of the new government scrappage scheme to ensure they comply with the Domestic Heating Compliance Guide (Building Regs Part LIB) - which covers replacement
boilers.
He explained the minimum requirements for
heating controls when it came to amendments on fully pumped
central heating systems include a programmer, room and cylinder stat and a boiler interlock.
Britons hoping to take part in the
boiler scrappage scheme - where they can apply to the Energy Saving Trust for £400 towards the cost of a
condensing boiler - may also have to consider upgrading their
heating controls.
However, Mr Lovegrove stated that for very little investment, consumers could find their new
heating controls contribute "significantly" to their overall cost savings.
"Legislation apart, householders taking advantage of the scrappage scheme have the opportunity to upgrade or modernise their complete central heating while the installer is replacing the
boiler," he concluded.
