Energy efficiency 'an increasing consideration for house buyers'
Article date : 03/08/2010

The energy efficiency of a home - including factors such as the age of its
boiler - is becoming more of a priority among buyers, it has been revealed.
According to research by glass manufacturer Pilkington cited in Green Build News, 76 per cent of purchasers now cite the eco credentials of a property for sale as a key consideration when it comes to deciding whether or not they will put in an offer.
However, only 27 per cent of respondents believed they would know how to go about judging a home's energy efficiency - which can include checking it is well insulated and has double glazing and up-to-date
central heating systems.
In addition to having a lower carbon footprint and therefore a less harmful impact on the environment, an efficient home can also reward owners with lower energy bills.
Pilkington's Julia Berkin said: "It's reassuring that energy efficiency is creeping up the wish-list of key considerations for house buyers."
Property expert George Clarke has recently teamed up with Pilkington Building Products to offer Britons tips on how to make their homes greener.
