Cheapest energy bills 'disappearing'
Article date : 21/07/2010

Britons should act now if they wish to take advantage of some of the cheapest available energy tariffs as they are disappearing, it has been warned.
In addition, taking steps to make
central heating systems more energy efficient by adding a
condensing boiler and
heating controls could be advisable, as moneysupermarket.com advises many of the more affordable payment plans are being withdrawn.
Scottish Power, npower and SSE Atlantic have already removed their best deals for new customers, with the average replacement tariff costing some 3.4 per cent more.
Scott Byrom, utilities manager at the price comparison site, said: "With wholesale energy prices hitting a year-high last week we fully expect to see more of the best deals for new customers being pulled and, at some stage, prices for existing customers to creep up."
Making
central heating systems more energy efficient ahead of the winter could help people to save money.
In order to achieve this, Britons may wish to consider investing in a
condensing boiler - which could save them hundreds of pounds annually, according to the Energy Saving Trust - in addition to
heating controls.
