Are energy sales set to end?
Article date : 05/07/2010

Sales of energy by the UK's providers look likely to come to an end, according to one price comparison site.
Confused.com has warned that E.ON has announced it is replacing its best fixed plan with a variable rate tariff.
Meanwhile, npower is to withdraw its "best buy" policy, with EDF Energy prices also set to increase, leading to claims that the time of sales is over and the market has "bottomed out".
Lisa Greenfield, energy analyst at the site, said: "It's depressing news for households as all signs suggest our gas and electricity bills are going to increase. Wholesale gas prices are rising and we're seeing the removal of some of the market's best deals."
She added that this and a potential move away from fixed tariffs were "ominous".
In light of this, Britons who still wish to reduce their utility bills may like to take steps to make their
central heating systems more energy efficient.
The Energy Saving Trust claims this could be achieved by having a
condensing boiler and
heating controls installed, in order to reduce annual demands for payment by over £200.
