Add heating controls to new boiler 'for best results'
Article date : 25/02/2010

One of the most obvious ways of making
central heating systems more energy efficient is to have a new
condensing boiler installed, but
heating controls could be another valuable way of reducing utility bills.
Such is the assertion of Honeywell, which notes that 8.5 million properties lack a room thermostat, even though this can be used to turn the heating down by one degree Celsius in order to reduce annual heating bills by ten per cent.
With heating and hot water accounting for 85 per cent of the average household's utility consumption, such a move could prove valuable.
Matthew Gordon, marketing and promotions manger for Honeywell Environmental Controls, explains people planning to take part in the government's
boiler scrappage scheme should put some of the £400 they receive towards the cost of new
heating controls.
"When a G-rated
boiler is replaced with a high efficiency
boiler, the
new boiler needs high efficiency controls to allow it to work properly," he stated.
Mr Gordon concluded that to get the most out of their new boiler, it was important consumers contemplated new
heating controls.
