Article date : 03/09/2008
With the first inklings of the cold days ahead, the Scottish Government has told pensioners that they will receive priority assistance to get
central heating systems installed or repaired.
Communities minster Steward Maxwell said that new priorities had been set in May putting an emphasis on assistance to people suffering most from fuel poverty.
He was replying to a letter from Dundee-based MSP Marlyn Glen, reported the Evening Telegraph.
Mr Maxwell wrote in his reply: I can assure you I intend to continue to bring influence to bear on the UK Government and the energy companies to do all they can to protect vulnerable customers from the impact of rising fuel costs, and to ensure they play their full part in reducing the levels of fuel poverty in Scotland."
Rising fuel costs have seen growing numbers of people become fuel poor the state where ten per cent of earnings is spent on energy for the home.
