Britons battling the credit crunch may feel that now is not the best time to move house, particularly if they are concerned that they will sell their property for less than they paid for it.
However, one home improvement expert has suggested that key renovations such as modernising
central heating systems can help to increase the value of a home.
Furthermore, Michael Holmes, the presenter of Channel 5's I Own Britain's Best Home, claims that households planning to stay put in their current home are likely to find that their investment pays for itself through lower energy bills
"First and foremost is that you improve the property itself and undertake essential repairs. Things like adding central heating [... and] making sure the building is warm [...] These improvements will always need to come first [and] they will always pay back more than they cost," he explained.
Britons considering investing in new
central heating systems may wish to consider a
condensing boiler, which the Energy Saving Trust claims could reduce utility bills by around a third.
