Homeowners are being forced to put their plans to move to the back of their minds, despite new research revealing that many admit to not currently living in their dream home.
The survey by Legal & General found that 66 per cent of Britons hope to one day move to their dream property, but for 23 per cent of these people, they feel this goal will never be achieved.
And 85 per cent noted that their current property is not the residence of their dreams.
It was also revealed that 69 per cent of respondents feel they do not have enough money stashed away to fund a move, while 19 per cent are delaying their plans over concerns that they may soon face unemployment.
However, Britons could choose to spend the money they save through not moving towards boosting the green credentials of their current property.
The Energy Saving Trust recommends that additions such as a
condensing boiler or
heating controls could both reduce homeowners' bills and carbon emissions.
And the group notes that many potential buyers are put off by outdated
central heating systems, which may mean that now is the perfect time to give such systems an update.
