Consumers 'not informed when buying new boiler'Written by Tony Harrison

Britons may not have taken the time to thoroughly research all the options available to them when they look to buy a new boiler, it has been claimed.

And according to Boilerguide, this could see consumers ending up without the boiler that would be most suited to their central heating systems.

Advancements in technology mean that there are now many different makes and types of boiler available, the group notes, but leaning towards the cheapest product is not always the most suitable option.

David Holmes, founder of Boilerguide, explains: "A larger home with two or more bathrooms will benefit much more from a regular gas boiler, as the separate hot and cold water tanks can provide multiple bathrooms with hot water at the same time."

However, in a smaller property a combi boiler may be more suitable as it can heat water as and when it is needed, he adds.

Meanwhile, homeowners looking to go green may wish to opt for a condensing boiler, which the Energy Saving Trust claims can reduce utility bills by a third.
