Britons 'concerned about future bills'Written by Jasper Cullen

With the credit crunch still rumbling on and the economy now in recession, UK households are becoming increasingly concerned about how they will make their incomes stretch to future outgoings, new research has discovered.

According to Saga, 34 per cent of Britons are worried about making ends meet to cover everyday bills, while 11 per cent are also worrying about the threat of redundancy.

This has led many to re-think their saving strategies.

However, one in five people aged under 35 are now making more of an effort to put their disposable income to one side for a rainy day, while 38 per cent of over-50s claimed they had not changed their spending habits since the onset of the credit crunch.

Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga, noted that this was because the older generation was "better placed than most" in looking for brands they could trust with their money.

However, no matter what their age, Britons could find that updating their central heating systems by adding a condensing boiler and heating controls could see them saving as much as £275 a year on bills.
